Olsen Easement

Type of Transaction: Conservation and Trail Easement

Date of Acquisition: 2004

About the easement:

In the early 2000s, the owners of an active farm of over 70 acres at the top of School House Lane in Mountainville, the Olsens, wanted to preserve the farm, but also allow for a subdivision on behalf of their heirs. The Tewksbury Land Trust worked with Mr. and Mrs. Olsen and the local Land Use Board to provide for three lots, put the bulk of the farm under a conservation easement, and allow for a public pathway across the property. Because School House Lane is a private drive, the Land Trust negotiated with the existing homeowners to allow for a public pathway along the side of the lane to allow walkers unfettered access from Mountainville and public roads.

There is now only one property left to complete the path to link 5 miles of trails on the eastern half of the town with 5 miles on the west.
